Many of you have seen the commotion online regarding some made up word - "Dressember." Quite simply: Dressember is an organization that challenges women around the world to wear dresses throughout the month of December. Whoever participates collects sponsors and supporters, and the funds that are donated go towards anti-human trafficking organizations; International Justice Mission, & A21. It's a very innovative, (and fashionable,) way to raise awareness toward the abolition of human sex trafficking in the world today.
It has been one month, and I am happy to announce that I have completed the Dressember challenge and raised my goal amount of $1,000! I also hear that the Dressember movement has raised over 800,000 dollars towards the anti-trafficking movement - with more support still coming in! (The campaign stays open until January 31st for those of you that still want to give. My page is here.)
I am grateful for Dressember and the conversations it afforded me this past month. Many people were shocked when I told them that trafficking happens here in Los Angeles, (and throughout the world in every major city.) I feel sickened and heart-broken when I consider that slavery is yet to be abolished on our land. Movements like this and many others are necessary to effecting change; I'm glad they exist.
A HUGE THANK YOU to those of you that donated!
Your generosity serves as the fuel that feeds our dog in the fight. The more we pour into her and build her up, the more quickly she can stand up against the beast that this epidemic has become. It is beautiful and generous people like you, that stand for humanity and effect change in the world. Thank you, again, from the bottom of my heart!
HAPPY NEW YEAR. Let's make 2016 the year that we become proactive in our community to abolish slavery in our neighborhoods. These girls are so young and vulnerable; exploited everyday, and averaging ten to thirteen years of age. They are your sisters. They are my sisters.
As we go through our daily lives and strive to meet all of our New Year's resolutions, let us not forget that we are all connected; bound together by our humanity, and loved by God.
Matthew 25:40, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
